West Bengal Chaa Sundari Scheme
State Government introduced a scheme named ‘Chaa Sundari’, providing funds for the construction of houses for all the permanent tea garden workers who do not have a house of their own. Rs 500 crore was allocated for the scheme for FY 2020-21.
What Is Chaa Sundari Scheme?
In 2020, Bengal finance minister Amit Mitra announced The ‘Chaa Sundari Scheme’ while tabling the Budget in the Assembly. the allocation of Rs 500 crore was announced for the project.
The scheme aims to give free houses along with land rights to tea workers in north Bengal. The tea garden laborers have demanded a long time for Land rights as the quarters where they live are located on leasehold land.
Each house will have two rooms, a kitchen, and a toilet. The construction has been carried out on government land near the tea estates. Govt has constructed Houses in areas like Alipurduar. The keys have been handed over to the beneficiaries earlier. More houses will be built in Torsha, Mujnai, Rahimpur, Lankapara and Dheklapara.
The housing department was assigned the task of building the houses. The list of beneficiaries has been prepared by the labor department.
